More than 83% of the world population lives in countries where press freedom is severely limited. And the number is not declining but growing. Journalists need skills, support and alternative platforms to be heard.

Vision

In 123 countries professional journalists cannot work freely. But in a world that is increasingly interconnected, global access to different perspectives is crucial. Modern technology offers new opportunities to achieve this. The VJM Foundation wants to empower journalists by offering them access to new skills, new networks and new outlets for their stories.

Goal

Our foundation has extensive expertise in the field of professional online video journalism, editorial cartooning and comics journalism. We aim to share this expertise. Through our foundation we can build insightful, investigative journalistic projects, train journalists, generate debate and support journalists working under difficult conditions. Our focus is on professional journalism using visuals. All indicators point to that, as the main information carrier of the future.

Activities

We want to achieve our goals by engaging in the following activities:

  • Training and support of professional video journalists in countries with limited press freedom
  • Events such as exhibitions around internationally relevant topics
  • Create journalistic projects together with high schools and universities
  • Enhancing debate about geopolitical issues
  • Capacity building for cartoonists around the world

In order to achieve its goals, the Foundation relies on sponsors and grants. We are always looking for new sponsors who sympathize with our vision. If you are interested, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
